During the first twenty-four hours of Threads being released there have been over 50 million downloads, and so far it’s looking good.
There are 450 million monthly users on Twitter, so Threads has a way to go to catch up, but early indications are that it won’t be long, especially as there are 2.35 billion active monthly Instagram users, and Threads is so easy to set up using an Instagram login.
It’s basic. We have found that attracting followers and follower suggestions is easier, with an algorithm that makes it easier to connect with other users without needing ‘to follow a bunch of people in order to discover a bunch of new accounts in feed.’ (Mosseri, creator of Threads). It’s easy to follow the people that you currently follow on Instagram and vice versa.
However, for now there are no hashtags and visually it seems much more simplistic, however, a follower feed is in the pipeline and we are certain that it will adapt quickly to user feedback. Perhaps here is where Threads will really come into it’s own, as Musk seems obtuse when it comes to criticism and has done it his own way, despite warning from users, industry leaders and even his own staff. In recent months we have seen a steady decline in the number of followers across our accounts as users turn away from the platform.
So is Threads worth joining? Yes, as a new platform there is a buzz in the media right now and it’s a great way to increase your visibility as people flock to the platform. However, a word of caution – don’t try it and then delete your account. Threads are working on a solution, but right now account deletion will also result in you losing your Instagram account, so either create your account and keep it running or simply deactivate it.
